Quality sofa beds that don’t look like sofa beds

We’re not sure when it happened but sofa beds have had a glow up.
No longer are they a mammoth, creaking thing that somehow fails at being a sofa and also fails at being a bed. This new generation of sofa beds does both spectacularly well – plus, they’re stylish and exceptionally easy to set up.
We’ve rounded up our favourite new-age sofa beds from Koala, Emma, Ecosa and Eva. All have a few things in common: they utilise modern design, they arrive at your doorstep within a week and they’re a breeze to assemble.
Keep reading to see what sets them apart so you can choose the right one for you.
NOTE: Prices are accurate at the time of publishing.
The 1.5 seater Cushy Sofa Bed is a cracker chair in its own right, with plush cushions every which way to make you feel all cosy and supported. Perfect for a rainy afternoon with a book and a tea. What’s more: it folds out into a bed for when guests come over, sleeping one with comfort. But really, the beauty of the Cushy 1.5 seater is that it’s a sweet chair on its own and is small-space friendly.
Like most Koala products, the Cushy comes with a 120-night trial period so you can see for yourself if it’s a winner.
Our pick for: The most non-sofa bed sofa bed
Much like the Koala Cushy, the Ecosa Tokyo Armchair has an excellent disguise on. A beautiful, boucle-cladded chair in its own right, the Ecosa Tokyo folds out into a comfortable bed for one in a matter of seconds. Perfect for apartments or small spaces.
Click around the Ecosa website for a second and you’ll see a few more that fit this bill: the Sydney Armchair, the Vienna Armchair, the Rio Armchair. All come in a variety of sizes up to 3.5 seater (king).
Our pick for: Greatest variety of options
We love the Eva Slideaway Sofa Bed for what it’s bringing to the table. Unlike the other quick roll-out-to-the-floor what gives us a little pause is the length of the sofa. You wouldn’t want your guests to be taller than around 5″9 or their feet will be hanging off the edge. Is this a dealbreaker? Not in our eyes. The clever layout and Scandi-slash-Japanese look more than makes up for this potential shortfall.
Our pick for: Most innovative design
The Emma Sofa Bed is set apart by the convenient storage in the arm rests and its ultra-modern design. So really, it’s three things: a sofa, a bed and a storage unit. It’s also one of the most affordable options on this list considering its size as a 2.5-seater lounge.
It only comes in one size and colour, mind you, so if the neutral brown-grey isn’t quite the hue you wanted, I’d look to the other options on the list. The one option only could indicate a focus on perfection so we don’t think it should put you off. It also comes with a 100-night trial if you want to be extra sure.
Our pick for: Additional storage
If you have room for a three-seater, the Koala Stunner is another premium option. It has inbuilt storage and a pull-out trundle that’ll keep the bed off the ground. Some reviewers have commented that it’s a little shallow as a couch but that comes down to preference. Utilise that Koala trial period to find out if it works for you.
Our pick for: An off-the-ground sleep experience
